April showers brought an abundance of books. The perfect balance of physical books to audiobooks, non-fiction & graphic novels to love stories, and good mysteries.
Most of my physical books were from my public and school libraries and a few Indie bookstore purchases. My audiobooks were courtesy of Sora and Libro.fm.
You Could Make This Place Beautiful by Maggie Smith was actually an author event at Women & Children First. This rare memoir in prose from a poet proved to be insightful, and moving, with raw grief and hope for transformation.
The Lost Art of Running by Shane Benzie was another Indie bookstore purchase after completing a race. Shane's approach brings a technical/informative perspective to the art of running while incorporating a narrative of his own experiences.
The Weight of Blood by Tiffany Jackson- Lincoln Award Nominee 2024- from one of my favorite authors. This mystery/horror with deadly consequences, in a town divided by a racial conflict leaves the reader with answered questions.
Huda F Are You? by Huda Fahmy- Lincoln Award Nominee 2024- graphic novel. This was a fun quick read exploring the author's identity crisis and coming of age.* Huda will be visiting our school library next Fall.
All the Beauty In The World by Patrick Bringley. Reading this book made me want to walk thru museums and appreciate all the beauty around us.
The Assignment by Liza Weimer- Lincoln Award Nominee 2024- inspired by true events. When justifying the impossible a couple of brave teens will challenge authority.
You'd Be Home Now by Kathleen Glasgow- Lincoln Award Nominee 2024- how do you help a family member dealing with addiction, parents' avoidance, and your own need for acceptance.
The Girls I've Been by Tess Sharpe- Lincoln Award Nominee 2024- great fast-paced mystery. Brings the reader back and forth between her present dilemma and the past that has shaped who she is.
Sun Damage by Sabine Durrant. A con artist trying to redeem her past life and start a new chapter.
Lessons In Chemistry by Bonnie Garmus. A cast of strong female characters defying career unfairness and societal limitations. It was hard not to fall in love with the characters, their perseverance & optimism.
